CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Another year of shooting competition has ended and everything went pretty well. Congratulations to all the winners and there were numerous winners, all well deserved. This is my last term, as chairman and I would like to thank all the officers who served with me for a job well done.
A note in the line of safety, all matches should have a fire extinguisher available. The reason is obvious, in case of fire the premises will be better protected.
In the interest of saving money and not much news to report, there will probably not be another bulletin until August. Any brochures that do not get into this bulletin will have to be mailed separately.
All nominations and proposals are in and being put in ballot form by Becky. They will be mailed by the end of November. All ballots have to be back to me by the end of December. Three or more officers will tally the ballots on January 1, 2006 at my house. Anyone is welcome to attend the opening of the ballots. We will shoot a little fast draw, tally the ballots and have a cook out. Call and let me know if you will attend so we will have enough food. Remember to put your return address on the envelope and mark it ballot. It must be determined that the Ballot is Valid before it is opened. The ballots will be opened and the envelopes separated from the ballots before it is tallied. Results of the voting will be mailed to all members by the end of January. The new officers and rules will take effect February 15, 2006.
Any questions on proposals should be directed to the author of the proposal. Other questions on voting or the ballots can be directed to any officer.
Thanks for a wonderful three years as Chairman, but I am glad it’s over.
Harry B.
EDITOR’S TIME
Well, here we are at the end of our 2005 season. We have had some great times together, and great contests. I would like to congratulate the Thumbing Top Guns: Becky Davenport & Ron Zimmerman, and the Open Top Guns myself, and Jim Yurasek. Great shooting to us all. And a thank you to the Sportsmen’s Club for all they did to make us feel welcome once again.
The Longhorn Gulch Shootout, hosted by Hondo Bratton, was an excellent match, and a ‘Big’ Thank You to Toyota on Nicholasville, and The Boot Store for sponsoring this event. Thanks to everyone who helped Fred put this match together and helped keeping it run smoothly. Congratulations to the 2005 Kentucky’s State Champions, Ron Zimmerman and Vickie Spiegelhalter. Great Shooting to us all.
Buckeye Rangers Shoot, once again, “great job, Ron, Phil, Bill, and to all their helpers, and especially to Gunny’s Hall, Marine Corps for putting up with all of us for another year. And Thanks for a great meal on Saturday night; the service was as excellent as the meal. Thank you once again for welcoming us, and hosting this shoot. Congratulations to all the winners! And to all the shooters.
The Clear Creek Shootout in TN. was once again great fun! Thanks go to the Jenkins for being wonderful hosts, with great food and a terrific band. All enjoyed themselves. Congratulations to the Tennessee State Champs, Susie Searls & Jim Yurasek, and to all the winners of all three contests, and to all the shooters.
Southern Year-End was a great shoot. Thank you to our hosts: Larry Atcheson and Jim and Sandy Hall.
The events they choose for this contest, proved to be a challenge for a lot of us. But it was a great time, and it was great to see so many shooters attend. Congratulations to the Southern Division’s Top Guns: Harry Ballengee, Sue Zimmerman, Susie Searls & Jim Yurasek. Congratulations to all the shooters, and all the winners!
*I have decided to do something a little different with the 50/50 drawing. It is now the 50/25/25 drawing. 50% will still go to the association to help costs, but I will draw two tickets, and we will have two winners for each drawing we do. I hope that everyone will like this idea; it gives all who have supported OFDA a better chance at winning.

THE SPORTMAN’S PRAYER
In the battles that goes thru life, I ask but a field that is fair.
A chance that is equal with all my strife. A courage to strive and to dare.
And if I should win, let it be by the code, with my faith and my honor held high.
And if I should lose, let me stand by the road, and cheer as the winners go by.
I encourage every member to check out our web site: www.ohiofastdraw.org Greg Custodio, Larry Atcheson and myself have been working getting information on it, and getting the contests updated. Please check it out, and leave us feedback on how you feel about the site.
INTERNET CONTEST:
Because of a busy month for everyone, no contest was held in August.
September’s contest was: 3 phases of 15’ SW the winners: Mike Gongola and Susie Searls
October’s contest: 3 phases of 8’ SW, the winners: Jerry Barr and Sue Zimmerman
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all of our members to VOTE! We have 119 members, and it is very important for all of us to be counted, and to voice our opinions. Some of the proposals for this year will be beneficial to the sport. Some, I’m sure will not. This is the time to make your voice heard. Please vote!
We are voting for a new chairman, and vice-chairman, north and south, this year. I have asked the candidates to let us know where they stand and how they will help improve our sport. Read what they had to say, before you vote!
VERY IMPORTANT: make sure that you mark on the front of the envelope “BALLOTS”, and your return address is on the envelope, so that the committee counting the ballots, knows you are a member in good standings! So if your dues are due, get them sent in to Susie, so you can be counted! Also any junior member (under the age of 17) cannot vote. And remember, that we all (north, south, west) vote for Chairman, But only North division votes for North vice- Chairman, South votes for South vice- Chairman.
Running for Chairman: Carol Bonnett
Hello Fellow Shooters:
My name is Carol Bonnett and I am running for Chairman of the Ohio Fast Draw Association. For those of you who do not know me, I live in Union, Ohio and have been a fast draw shooter for many years. I have held the offices of Secretary, Records Keeper, and am a past Editor of the OFDA newsletter. I am also a member of the Shawnee Bandits FDC, which is responsible for the Annie Oakley Days contest as well as assisting the Knick’s for the Lazy K contest and the Lawman Gunfighter for Gene Autry Days. I usually work every contest I go to as a scorekeeper, timer operator, gun checker and/or line officer. Harry and Marcia Ballengee, as well as my husband Duke and myself, were part of the planning committee this past year for the Urbana Wild West Festival here in Ohio. We are pleased to announce that through our efforts there will be a new contest in September 2006 at this festival.
My vision at this time, for the Ohio Fast Draw Association is to increase membership. We should promote our sport at every opportunity so we can attract new members. We need to get fast draw out in front of the public, not only to promote gun safety, but to show a different side of firearms.
Vacation time restrictions prevent me from going to most of the southern and western division’s contests, but I would like to assure those shooters that their concerns are just as important to me as the northern division’s.
In closing I would like to assure the members of the Ohio Fast Draw Association that if elected, the interests of the association will be first and foremost and I will give 110% to the office of Chairman.
Respectfully,
Carol L. Bonnett
Running for Chairman: Ron Zimmerman
Most everyone knows me or has read about me in your bulletin. I live in Wellington, OH and have been married to Sue for 33 years. We have 2 daughters, who are married, and a grandson, that many of you have met. I have been an active member of the OFDA for going on 5 years and have come a long way since my first contest at Annie Oakley Days in 2001.
I love the sport of fast draw and strive to be the best that I can be. Should I be elected as your Chairman, I will also strive to be the best that I can be as your Chairman
The OFDA must find ways to promote the sport of Fast Draw. Before 2001, I had never heard of the sport and did not know it existed.
The Chairman should attend all contests possible to show his support to the host clubs and help out where needed.
The Chairman should be on the line with a new shooter until they have learned the rules and what their responsibilities are as a target/hand judge. Many members don’t understand how important this job is.
RUNNING FOR NORTH VICE-CHAIRMAN: VERD STUCKEY
To the North Region Membership
First of all, I wish to thank all of the Past and Present OFDA officer holders who have worked so hard and devoted their time to make the OFDA work and grow. When you see them, thank them for all of their efforts. We sometimes take them for granted!
The office of Vice-Chairperson—North Division, requires a big pair of feet to fill the shoes of past Vice-Chairperson's. As a nominee, I propose a continuation of the forward direction that the Association is headed. That direction (as I see it) is to maintain an amateur status as stated in the Constitution. I will also work to add additional matches to replace the ones lost, by encouraging our Clubs and Members to sponsor a match.
We also need to continue to add new members, and you the membership are our biggest ambassadors, and with you showing how great our organization is, will entice others to join. The Vice-Chairperson, along with the OFDA, will support and offer assistance to accomplish this growth.
The main job I believe of the Vice-Chairperson is to give support and assistance to the Chairperson, Clubs, Membership, and to be open minded about any new ideas offered by the membership.
You probably quit reading this about two paragraphs ago, but if you made it this far, please consider voting for me.
Sincerely
Verd Stuckey
Nominee for Vice-Chairperson—North Division
Running for North Vice-Chairman: Dale Searls
As some of you know, I have been a member of the OFDA for 43 years, serving 15 years as the Chairman and only missing a couple of contests. Along with the Banshees, we have hosted lots of contests and we invite anyone to our practice sessions every Saturday evening at our home.
Want I would like to see is the memberships grow and this year I signed up five new members, helping them find proper equipment at no financial gain to me.
We need to follow the rules in the Constitution and have it rewritten, copied to the exact wording as it was voted in.
The officers should attend al contests, if possible and help out with any problems and make the new shooters feel welcome. The events of the contest should be advantageous to all shooters, new and old, fast and accurate.

ATTENTION:
The constitution states that Line Officers must be certified by the OFDA Line Officer Committee. This committee is made up of Jim Yurasek, Ron Bretz, and myself, Phil McNaughton. Anyone wanting to become certified, as a Line Officer must pass a written test administered by one of us. You will be sent a list of the rules governing the duties and responsibilities of running a shooting line and the test (open book). I am now in the process of gathering all the information that we have so I can keep a current list of all OFDA Line Officers and those who want to become Line Officers. I hope to have everything set up by the first of the year so we can have the new Line Officers ready to go for the 2006 shooting season.
Please contact me at PhilMac2k1@aol.com if you want to become certified and I will get all the info to you as soon as I get everything compiled. Many thanks to all who have already become certified and those of you who have expressed interest in becoming certified. Remember, "Many hands make for light work".
